*Temple Intro
Founded in July 1969 by the late Master Tanheo for the global propagation and teaching of Buddhism, as well as for the fostering of internationally-oriented Buddhists, Jakwangsa ("Temple of Compassionate Light") is run by the Tanheo Buddhist Cultural Foundation, established in 1984. The International Meditation Center was opened in the spring of 2004 and it is working towards playing a major role as a site for international Buddhism. As part of these efforts, the temple holds a series of lectures by foreign monks in addition to numerous other special as well as regular training programs. *Templestay Guide
Daily Available wiht interpretation. Participants in the Templestay Program are welcome anytime and programs can be tailored to meet their needs. As in other temples, basic activities include meditation, Buddhist ceremonial services and chanting, meal offerings, tea ceremony, walking meditation, Dharma talks, hiking, etc. In addition to catering to foreign visitors, Jakwangsa Temple holds large student training programs for local primary, middle and high school students during the summer and winter vacations. The objectives of these programs include not only Buddhist education but also developing greater global Buddhist sensitivities through participation in programs in English with foreign monks.
